Experience in Education
I began my career teaching Kindergarten in Provo School District, where I learned firsthand both the joys and challenges of full-time teaching. Those experiences shaped my understanding of the important work teachers do and the support they need to help students succeed.
During my time in Provo, I served as my school’s Numeracy Coordinator, where I led professional development in mathematics, participated in advanced math training and conferences, and helped with the district mathematics curriculum adoption process. This two-year effort gave me opportunities to observe mathematics instruction across the state and deepen my understanding of curriculum and classroom practice. Before moving to Tooele County, I was also appointed as a district K–2 curriculum trainer.
I participated on the district Kindergarten committee, where we addressed issues specific to Kindergarten education, including assessment procedures.
Since receiving my Utah teaching license, I have kept it current through required renewal coursework, workshops, and conferences, ensuring I remain informed on current research, best practices, and developments in education law and finance.
After moving to Tooele County, I made raising my children my primary focus while continuing to teach in various capacities. I have taught preschool, taught English online, and tutored elementary students, allowing me to remain closely connected to education while raising my family. I have also served on PTA boards and School Community Councils, giving me experience from the parent and community perspective.
In 2020, the Tooele Education Foundation asked me to help distribute information and answer questions regarding the bond proposal on the ballot. Through that process, I worked with school and community leaders throughout the county and spent many hours researching Utah law, district history, finance questions, and school policy. That experience deepened my understanding of school finance, public education law, and the concerns many residents have regarding taxes and school funding. It strengthened my commitment to carefully researching issues, asking difficult questions, and helping the public understand how and why decisions are made.
I currently work as a guest teacher in Tooele County School District. This role allows me to stay connected to classrooms and gain firsthand insight into the experiences, successes, and challenges faced by students, teachers, staff, and families.
One lesson education has continually taught me is that learning never stops. Every student, teacher, and parent brings a unique perspective and story. Those experiences continue to shape my understanding of what strong schools and good policy look like. I believe our best solutions come when we listen carefully, learn from one another, and work together to make our schools the best they can be.
